This course has been custom built for paddlers who have practiced their paddling skills and are ready to develop leadership, risk management, and group management abilities. Rather than present these skills in a static, hypothetical environment, we'll do our learning and development during a real world trip on open water.
Set against the dynamic backdrop of Lake Superior with the mining town of Marquette, Michigan, as our starting and ending point, we'll explore the local shoreline while engaging in an intense, fun, and practical learning experience. We'll depart around 3:00 pm on the first day, then spend the afternoon getting to know the group and establish our levels of comfort and experience before camping in a beautiful, local spot for the night. The second day will be spent planning, executing, and diverting from various crossings, landings, and routes. We'll encounter many scenarios and have plenty of opportunities to practice rescuing loaded boats, towing, and decision making. Day three will end with a paddle back to Marquette in the morning and a thorough, lively debriefing over a long lunch at a wonderful, local pub.
Plan to paddle between 10 and 15 miles per day. You'll be tired, but very satisfied. And, you'll have earned the warm pub food the end of day three!
